Creating a new product type for my catalogue

You may want to sell more than one item in your shop - for example you may be selling T-Shirts, Jeans and Trainers.   Each of these items have different ways of distinguishing between each product.

The t-shirts can be determined by colour and size, the jeans by waist size and leg length, and the trainers by shoe size.... and to further complicate things a red small t-shirt may cost five pounds, but a large green t-shirt may cost ten pounds!!

The good news is, you don't have to create lots of individual products for each variant of your product - you can do this in RedStar Energy using Product Types, Options and Attributes.

* If your product catalogue is configured to use product types, all items will need to be set to a Product Type even if it is only available in one size or colour.

How to create a product type, and assign some different options (i.e. size, colour) and attributes (i.e. large, small, red, green)

  1. In RedStar Energy, select Product Catalogue > Settings > Types
  2. Enter the name of your new product type and click on Create
  3. Click on manage against the new product type you have created

    Create Product Options & Attributes
  4. Enter the name of your product options (i.e. size, colour)
  5. Click on Change Values for each option in turn enter your variants (i.e. large, small, red, green)

That's the first part of the job done, and you are now ready to add these values against your products.

Creating Product Options

  1. In RedStar Energy, select Product Catalogue > Products > Edit Products
  2. Edit the product you would like to change
  3. Make sure the product type is set to the correct product type, click on Update
  4. Select Options from the navigation for your product
  5. Create the variant you would like by selecting the correct values in each of the boxes (i.e. Red, Large)
  6. Click on Generate Options
If you select Red, Green and Large the system will generate a large red and a large green.
  7. You will now see a list of options - you can edit each individual one by setting the friendly name displayed on the site, stock status and even upoad an image.

PLEASE NOTE: Your website must be configured to use product options, if it isn't you need to contact us to discuss implementing this for you
