How to upload files to a website with SmartFTP

SmartFTP is a great tool for uploading foles to your website, and can be downloaded from www.smartftp.com.

Once you have downloaded it, you will then make to need add a couple of settings.

Creating a new item

  1. Go into SmartFTP
  2. Select "New Remote Browser" from the File menu
  3. Enter your host (i.e. www.yourwebsite.com)
  4. Enter the username and password you have been supplied
  5. Enter a name to help you recognise the connection
  6. SmartFTP will automatically connect to your website

Uploading files

  1. Connect to your server (or create a new connection as above)
  2. Select the folder you would like to upload to in the "Folders Window"
  3. Drag and drop your files into the folder as you would if you were copying files on your computer
  4. In the transfer queue (at the bottom of the screen) click the play button, you will notice your files starting to transfer over

Updating an existing item / changing the password

  1. Go into SmartFTP
  2. On the Favourites Menu, select “Manage Favourites”
  3. You should see a list of connections – find the favourite that you would like to change
  4. Right click on it and select Properties
  5. Type in the new password in the password box
  6. Click on OK
